A Message from the Program Director

Dear Future Colleague,

Pediatrics is an amazing and rewarding career based on new and innovative therapies, technologies, and the amazing smiles of the children for whom we care on a daily basis. The ability to watch our patients grow over time is unmatched by any other medical specialty. The faculty and staff at the Pediatric Residency Program at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in the Detroit Medical Center are committed to providing training with a vision toward the future of pediatric medicine. As a major referral center in southeastern Michigan, we are fortunate to see a broad range of pathology as well as provide primary care to thousands of children in the region.  Most of us are pediatricians, many are researchers; some of us are administrators; all of us are teachers. Whether through our lecture series, bedside teaching, or one-on-one staffing, we derive great pleasure from our didactic interactions with the residents.

We welcome you to get to get to know more about our hospital, staff and patient resources. We have a state-of-the-art facility that is child friendly. Working in a hospital that is dedicated to the care of children, you will find all of the physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff knowledgeable and comfortable in working with children, from child-sized equipment to a team of specialists that are trained to minimize the anxiety and stress of our young patients.  As a member of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan team, you will find an introduction to the intensity, the warmth, the humor, and the challenge of pediatrics along with the joy and the camaraderie of working as a part of a diverse group of physicians. As one of the oldest hospitals in the nation, we are proud of the fact that the American Academy of Pediatrics was founded in Detroit. Since it was founded as Children’s Free Hospital in 1886, Children’s Hospital of Michigan has been committed to the community it serves in Detroit. In Detroit and its surrounding suburbs, you will find a friendly and inviting community in which to live and wonderful athletic and recreational opportunities for your leisure time.

Thank you for your consideration of our program and we wish you every success in your residency training and careers as pediatricians.
